Job Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading, planning, and overseeing all maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability, facility safety, and uninterrupted production. This role manages maintenance technicians, preventive maintenance programs, and continuous improvement initiatives while controlling costs and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of maintenance technicians
- Schedule labor and assign daily work based on production priorities
- Conduct performance evaluations, training, and skills development
- Enforce safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and best practices
- Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues
- Ensure optimal uptime and reliability of production equipment
- Coordinate emergency repairs and root cause analysis for downtime events
- Plan maintenance work orders and manage backlog using CMMS
- Coordinate shutdowns, equipment installations, and capital projects
- Partner with production and engineering teams to align maintenance strategy
- Manage maintenance budget, spare parts inventory, and vendor costs
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and reliability improvements
- Track KPIs such as downtime, MTBF, and maintenance spend
- Drive lean maintenance, TPM, or continuous improvement initiatives
- Oversee facility systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and utilities
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards
- Manage contractors and ensure work meets quality and safety expectations
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred
- 5+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- 2+ years of supervisory or management experience
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting expertise
- Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance planning
- Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field
- Experience with lean manufacturing, TPM, or reliability-centered maintenance
- Certifications such as CMRP, electrical, or OSHA
- Capital project and vendor management experience
- Ability to walk production floors and respond to equipment issues
- On-call availability for emergencies or plant shutdowns
