Position Summary
The Accounting Technician performs a broad range of accounting and financial support functions for the College of Arts and Sciences Business Operations (CASBO) shared services team. This position assists accountants and senior financial staff with day‑to‑day transactional processing, reconciliations, and data‑management activities in support of assigned academic departments. Core responsibilities include processing purchasing transactions, travel reimbursements, journal entries, budget transfers, PCard reconciliations, vendor payments, and data entry in Connect Carolina and other university financial systems.
The Accounting Technician serves as the first point of contact for departmental inquiries related to routine financial transactions and directs complex issues to senior accounting staff as appropriate. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting compliance with university and state policies, and providing responsive, high‑quality customer service to faculty, staff, and departmental business managers. The Accounting Technician reports to the Senior Accountant for the assigned division and works collaboratively with other CASBO accounting and financial staff to ensure consistent, efficient service delivery across shared services departments.

- Serving as the first point of contact for routine departmental financial inquiries and escalating complex issues to senior staff
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Management Preferences- Strong accounting knowledge with analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Excellent communication, customer service, and collaboration abilities
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Experience with financial systems preferred, including Connect Carolina, Info Porte, Concur, Works (PCard), and Payment Works
- Knowledge of UNC‑Chapel Hill, State, and Federal accounting policies, purchasing regulations, and travel rules preferred
