Camp Coordinator – Adventure Camps
PAY: $17.85 per hour
Spend Summer 2026 as a role model, developing positive relationships with youth in our community. Paddle, hike, bike, climb, swim, and more, as you help campers develop new skills and friendships.
This position is open until filled and may close without notice.
Because this position may work with children in various capacities, anyone hired for this position is required under NC State law to be fingerprinted and cleared for employment by the NC State Bureau of Investigation. The town manages this process as part of its new hire screening.

What You’ll Do At Work- Lead! Supervise and support staff to create an inclusive and meaningful camp experience. Instruct and guide campers in archery, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, kayaking, and more! Provide positive and corrective feedback.
- Plan & Coordinate. Coordinate and support in the implementation of activities and trips. Adapt activities and trips to support the inclusion of campers with special needs. Complete and submit reports.
- Lead by Example. Manage campers and their behavior, lead games and activities, promote skill development, creativity, and exploration. Assist campers with special needs, make adaptations to games and activities for inclusive play.
- Communicate. Develop relationships with staff, parents, and campers; be empathic, build trust, and display patience. Mediate and resolve conflicts and behaviors.
- R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Learn, serve, and work together to build a community where people thrive by upholding the Town’s values, RESPONSIBILITY, EQUITY, SAFETY, PROFESSIONALISM, ETHICS, COMMUNICATION, and TEAMWORK.
- Attend to injuries. Provide first aid. Complete and submit reports. Inventory and restock supplies. Perform CPR and utilize AED.
- Learn and Grow. Attend and participate in staff orientation and trainings. Lead and participate staff meetings and teambuilding. Give and receive feedback. Provide input.
- Participate! Actively engage while supervising campers. Encourage and invite participation, set an example for positive and inclusive play. Splash in Jordan Lake, hike local trails, play card games, build rafts, race to the finish line, and more!
- Support Camp. Set up, break down, and maintain supplies and equipment. Clean and maintain safe spaces. Drive a 15-passenger van of campers and staff. Be flexible and adapt to changes; assist and support where needed.
You’ll be working mostly outdoors at parks, lakes, rivers, and trails. Some indoor work will take place in recreation centers. You’ll travel in Town vehicles to offsite locations for trips. Camps run during summertime, and you may experience hot temperatures and inclement weather.
When You’ll WorkYou’ll be required to attend up to 40 hours of orientation and trainings which will take place between June 1 and June 14, 2026.
June 15 – August 13, 2026, you’ll work anywhere between 25 and 40 hours per week, when camps are scheduled. Below is the 2026 Adventure Camp schedule:
- Jun 15-18, 2026 – Indoor Rock-Climbing Camp (Mon – Thurs, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
- July 8-10, 2026 – X-TREME Adventure Camp (Wed‑Fri, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
- July 13-16, 2026 – Water Adventure Camp (Mon – Thurs, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
- July 27-30, 2026 – Introduction to Adventure Camp (Mon – Thurs, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
- Aug 3-6, 2026 – Archery Camp (Mon‑Thurs, 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.)
- Aug 10-13, 2025 – Archery Camp (Mon‑Thurs, 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.)
Additional evening and weekend work may be optional to help support adventure programs and indoor climbing wall operations. The Town celebrates Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, 2026, and Independence Day on Friday, July 3, 2026. There will be no camp, and staff will have these days off!
