UTS- Temporary Web Designer at UNC Chapel Hill

The department is seeking a Web Designer/Web Developer to help complete and launch a new office website built in Word Press. The overall design and structure of the site are largely established, and the selected candidate will focus primarily on completing development, implementing remaining content and design updates, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the site is ready for launch.

The position will work primarily with Word Press and will require a strong understanding of front-end web development, including HTML and CSS. The candidate will work with OIRPA staff to address outstanding website needs, make updates within Word Press, and help ensure the site provides a consistent, user-friendly, and accessible experience. The role may also involve working with Markdown and other markup languages as part of the website development and publishing process.

Department Required Skills

Strong experience with Word Press website design and development is required, including the ability to create, modify, format, and maintain Word Press websites. Candidates should have working knowledge of HTML and CSS and be comfortable making changes directly within a web development environment. Familiarity with the Gutenberg block editor, Word Press themes, and plugins is helpful.

Candidates should have familiarity with digital accessibility guidelines, including W3C standards and WCAG 2.1 guidelines, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Effective communication and the ability to work collaboratively with individuals with varying levels of technical experience are also important.
