PositionSummary
The Department of Surgery invites applications for a full‑time academic podiatrist to serve as Podiatry Section Chief within the Division of Vascular Surgery. The Division comprises 12 faculty members delivering comprehensive clinical services for lower extremity wounds and podiatric needs. This open‑rank, open‑track appointment (0.5–1.0 FTE) will provide strategic leadership, clinical oversight, and administrative direction for the Podiatry Section. The Section Chief will integrate patient care with administrative responsibilities, promote high‑quality evidence‑based podiatric care across inpatient and outpatient settings, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including vascular surgery, orthopedics, wound care, endocrinology, infectious disease, and primary care.
Faculty are expected to embrace clinical care, education, and research missions. The Section Chief will lead the Limb Salvage Program, oversee all podiatric care, and collaborate with related services to ensure comprehensive, evidence‑based care for complex lower extremity conditions.
Candidates should demonstrate commitment to medical student, resident, and fellow education. Research engagement is encouraged and may span clinical, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery research. Applicants must commit to high‑quality clinical care and possess strong interpersonal skills for collaboration within UNC Health System.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsDPM, MD, or equivalent foreign degree. Prospective candidates must be Board Certified/Board eligible in Podiatric Surgery. Candidates must either hold a current North Carolina medical license or be eligible for application.
Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience- Experience in diabetic foot care, wound management, surgical procedures, and collaborative team care.
- Experience in ankle management, general podiatry, and podiatric surgery.
- Previous roles as a department director or residency director.
- Research experience in clinical outcomes, quality assessment, health services research, basic science, translational research, or podiatric medicine and surgery.
- Experience in wound care and limb salvage.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. The holder will report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual reporting training.
