About the DepartmentThe UNC School of Medicine is a leader in patient care, education, and research. The Neurology Department offers a comprehensive program of clinical care, teaching, and research. UNC is a designated Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence employing a comprehensive approach to patients with movement disorders.
Position SummaryThe Department of Neurology seeks a Board‑Certified or Board‑Eligible neurologist with a specific interest and experience in Movement Disorders and neuromodulation techniques such as deep brain stimulation and focused ultrasound ablation. This fixed‑term appointment at the Assistant to Full Professor level will join 6 other movement disorder specialists and will provide outpatient clinical duties, operative planning/monitoring, and teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing care for patients with movement disorders
- Planning surgical targets for deep brain stimulation and focused ultrasound ablation
- Intraoperative micro‑electrode recording and programming of DBS devices
- Operating 2‑8 weeks per year on the inpatient neurology service
- Teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, and medical students
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team (nurse practitioner, social worker, nurse, research coordinator)
- MD, MD/PhD or equivalent
- Completed ACGME‑certified neurology residency
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology
- Fellowship training in movement disorders with experience in surgical planning, intraoperative micro‑electrode recording, and DBS device programming
- Ability to obtain/hold a North Carolina medical license
- Experience planning for focused ultrasound ablation
- Demonstrated teaching experience in a residency or fellowship program
- Commitment to underserved populations and reducing health disparities
