Position Summary

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is recruiting an academically‑oriented Clinical Histocompatibility Laboratory Director for a tenure‑track/tenured, fixed‑term, or variable‑track position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

Responsibilities
  • Review and sign off on test results, quality control/assurance data, and test development/validation.
  • Provide consultative services, including on‑call coverage.
  • Engage in translational research through interdisciplinary teams and research core facilities.
  • Participate in teaching and mentorship opportunities.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
  • PhD, MD, or MD/PhD.
  • Postdoctoral fellowship training in Clinical Histocompatibility (ASHI approved).
  • Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Medical Laboratory Immunology (ABMLI or DMLI) or Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI).
  • Eligible to obtain clinical privileges at UNC Hospitals.
  • Experience in histocompatibility testing (solid organ, hematopoietic cell transplant, and HLA testing).
Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, And Experience
  • Experience in clinical molecular genetic testing, especially next‑generation sequencing for infectious disease and immune disorders.
  • Experience in serologic testing for infectious, allergic, and autoimmune disease.
