Job SummaryMorehead Planetarium and Science Center is seeking high school students aged 16 or older to serve as Summer Science Camp Assistant Counselors from June 8 – August 7, 2026. The role involves teaching science to children aged 5‑13 through hands‑on activities and ensuring a safe, engaging camp experience.
Job Duties- Receive training on science content and curricula geared toward kids ages 5‑13.
- Learn best practices for teaching camp activities, including working with campers with special needs, inclusive teaching methods, classroom management support, and general camp management.
- Co‑lead and assist with science activities for groups of up to 20 campers alongside a Lead Counselor and Counselor‑In‑Training.
- Supervise campers to ensure their safety and enjoyment.
- Communicate with camp administrators regarding incidents, material needs, and general updates.
High school diploma or equivalent, or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Management Preferences- At least 16 years of age by May 1, 2025.
- Experience working with children.
- High level of responsibility, organization, and resourcefulness.
Moderate physical effort is required. Counselors may spend time teaching inside and outside, and will often work outdoors during pick‑up and drop‑off periods.

Applicants are required to be available for a minimum of 5 camp weeks; preference will be given to those available for more weeks. The camp coordinator will design a flexible staff schedule to accommodate other responsibilities such as summer classes.
