Position: Dual Language Teacher (K-5 English World)

Job Description

NCE has a two-way immersion dual language program in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. The school is currently looking for a 4th or 5th grade English World Teacher who will teach ELA and Social Studies only. This is a great opportunity for teachers interested in teaching in a dual language school.

Minimum Training and Experience

Required to hold state certification in Elementary (license code 025), Spanish (license code 521) and designated as "highly qualified".

Performance Responsibilities
  • Teach students academic, social, and motor skills in public schools.
  • Prepare course objectives and outlines for the course of study following curriculum guidelines or state and school requirements.
  • Lecture, demonstrate, and use audiovisual teaching aids and best practices to present subject matter to class.
  • Prepare, administer, and correct tests, and record results.
  • Assign lessons, correct papers, and conduct oral presentations.
  • Develop and maintain a behavioral plan and order in classroom, on playground, and throughout the campus.
  • Counsel students when adjustment and academic problems arise.
  • Discuss students' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
  • Keep attendance and grade records as required by school.
  • Coordinate class field trips.
  • Teach combined, combination, or inclusion classes.
  • Specialize by subject taught, such as math, science, or social studies, music, etc.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues and in the school's learning community.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Standards Required to Perform Responsibilities
  • Physical:
    Must be able to operate various equipment and a motor vehicle; lift up to 10 pounds occasionally; perform light work such as walking or standing.
  • Data Conception:
    Ability to compare and judge observable characteristics of data, people, or things.
  • Interpersonal Communication:
    Ability to give instructions, directions, and exchange information orally.
  • Language Ability:
    Ability to read, prepare, and edit written correspondence, reports, and forms; speak before groups with poise and confidence.
  • Intelligence:
    Apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems and draw conclusions.
  • Verbal Aptitude:
    Record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in standard English.
  • Numerical Aptitude:
    Utilize mathematical formulas, perform basic arithmetic, and apply algebraic and statistical principles.
  • Form/Spatial Aptitude:
    Inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
  • Motor Coordination:
    Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly with office equipment.
  • Manual Dexterity:
    Handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools.
  • Color Discrimination:
    Not required to differentiate between colors.
  • Interpersonal Temperament:
    Adapt to performing under stress and emergency situations.
  • Physical Communication:
    Talk, hear, and communicate via telephone.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Masterful knowledge of curriculum and best practices.
  • Highly developed presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of staff development models that lead to effective teacher development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Considerable human relations and human development skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Good technical skills with technology and presentation tools.
  • Ability to use common office machines and software for word processing, spreadsheets, and file maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records, statistics, and develop meaningful reports.
  • Ability to plan and evaluate strategies for new teacher development.
  • Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required.
  • Ability to work with adult learners.
Terms of Employment

Full‑time for ten months. Salary based on state and local salary schedules.
