Salary Grade: Teacher, eligible for local supplement
Work Location: Rashkis Elementary School
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Schedule: 10 Months

Responsibilities
  • Instructs pupils in a classroom, utilizing the NC Standard Course of Study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicates these objectives to the pupils.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers and evaluates their job performance as requested.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Selects and requisitions language books and instructional aides; maintains required inventory; LEP testing documentation and records.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Holds, or is eligible to hold, a North Carolina Professional Educator's license in the assigned area
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Prior teaching experience preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
