Position Summary: At CHCCS, a teacher’s goal is to provide each student with the help, counsel, and learning experience needed to make progress toward educational goals established, to create a flexible instructional program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth, and to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to live a rewarding life in an ever-changing world.

• Develop and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials, including individualized and small‑group instruction adapted to the needs of each student.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning that aligns with the maturity and interests of the students.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required for a functional learning atmosphere.
• Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicating them to students.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media.
• Evaluate student academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.
• Identify pupil needs and collaborate with other professional staff to assess and address health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Maintain professional competence through in‑service education and self‑selected professional growth activities.
• Participate in curriculum development and related programs, including faculty committees and student activities sponsorship.
• Instruct pupils using the curriculum adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
• Translate lesson plans into effective learning experiences to maximize instructional time.
• Evaluate pupil performance and growth using formative and summative evaluation tools.
• Collaborate with colleagues to promote an optimal learning environment.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor and maintain compliance with district policies.

• Hold, or be eligible to hold, a North Carolina Professional Educator’s license in the assigned area.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Prior teaching experience preferred.
• Other qualifications acceptable as determined by the Board.

• Ability to perform essential job functions in accordance with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with the same standards.
