Elementary Teacher Assistant (Part-Time 50%)

Assist the teacher in providing a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment. Relieve the teacher of non‑teaching functions to allow more time for preparation, individualization, and evaluation.

• Assist the classroom teacher by working with individual students, small groups, or large groups.
• Reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher, and devise special strategies based on an understanding of individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
• Guide independent study, enrichment, or remedial activities set up and assigned by the teacher. Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other oral communication activities.
• Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other instructional materials.
• Correct assignments and supervise testing and make‑up work as assigned by the teacher.
• Assist teachers with behavior management consistent with school policies and expectations.
• Keep the supervising teacher informed of any problems or special information about an individual student.
• Communicate with parents as directed by the teacher while maintaining student confidentiality.
• Supervise students during breakfast, lunch, bus duty, class, emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Relieve the teacher for conferences and emergencies on a short‑term basis as required.
• Accompany students to special classes and assist students or the resource teacher as needed.
• Serve as a substitute teacher when needed, providing information and assistance to the substitute.
• Perform classroom health procedures under the supervision of the school nurse.
• Perform clerical duties such as checking and recording student attendance, collecting and recording money, keeping bulletin boards and displays up to date, and caring for classroom equipment.
• Participate in in‑service training programs as assigned.
• Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality expected of licensed teachers.
• May be asked to serve as a school crossing guard.
• Perform any other tasks as the teacher or supervisor may assign.

• Must have either 48 semester hours of education earned/passed, or 7 core area hours and passing scores on Work Keys tests for Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, or 96 contact hours and Work Keys scores for Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Associate’s Degree preferred.
• Previous experience working with children preferred.

• Must be able to perform mandatory activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
• Ability to safely perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other applicable standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other applicable standards.
