Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Institute for Risk Management and Insurance Innovation (IRMII) is focused on interdisciplinary research and training that lead to better understanding and management of financial losses resulting from perils ranging from extreme weather to pandemics to cyber-attacks. Our mission is to drive the advancement of creative risk management tools and strategies to address growing threats to society, and to cultivate a collaborative ecosystem of academics and industry leaders to train the next generation of risk management professionals.

The Institute has a focus on both graduate research and graduate/undergraduate education, with the latter involving the administration of the new Minor in Risk Management. Support for IRMII includes funding from nearly 40 firms from across the insurance and risk management sector, and Institute faculty, staff and students have many opportunities to interact with these partners as they develop research projects and training programs of direct relevance to the industry.

1. Student Program & Talent Pipeline Support
  • Serve as a friendly, reliable point of contact for student questions about internships, the Risk Management Minor, and IRMII programs generally.
  • Internship & full-time placement support: help maintain the internship and placement pipeline in the CRM, track application and match status, and assist with light candidate prep
  • Career Fair support: provide prep support and on-site support connecting students with employers.
  • Mentorship & alumni program support: help coordinate mentor-student matching logistics, track participation, and support the alumni database and outreach cadence.
  • Maintain accurate student records — enrollment, research participation, internship/placement history — in IRMII’s shared systems.
2. Event Coordination and Support
  • Coordinate logistics for seminars, workshops, guest speaker sessions, and signature events (Career Fair, Research Summit, Board Meetings, and similar) — scheduling, room bookings, catering, AV, and materials.
  • Manage student event registration processes and provide on-site, day-of support.
  • Support campus visitor coordination, including scheduling, materials, and follow-up thank-yous.
  • Track event participation and help gather post-event feedback from students and partners.
3. Office & Administrative Support
  • Provide day-to-day office support: supplies, filing, correspondence, and general office organization.
  • Assist with calendar coordination and scheduling for student- and event-related meetings.
  • Support expense tracking, reimbursements, and vendor coordination as needed.
  • Assist with onboarding logistics for new student interns and visiting scholars.
