Tenure/Tenure-Track Faculty

The School of Social Work (SSW) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for two (2) open-rank tenure-track faculty (nine-month) positions. By applying, candidates will be considered for all available vacancies. Consistent with the School's mission to advance equity, transform systems, and improve lives, we seek scholars whose research addresses pressing social challenges and advances social well-being through research, teaching, and community engagement.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, substance use prevention and treatment, gender-based and intimate partner violence, and child and family well-being. We also welcome expertise in related areas that may inform prevention and intervention strategies, including social policy and service systems, economic security, behavioral and mental health, and community-based interventions. Candidates whose work demonstrates strong potential for interdisciplinary collaboration, external funding, and the translation of research into practice and policy are especially encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates will contribute to the School's nationally recognized missions of research, teaching, and community engagement through the development of rigorous and impactful programs of scholarship that advance social work knowledge, practice, and policy. Faculty appointed to these positions will have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the University and with community partners, mentor MSW and PhD students, and contribute to curriculum development and instruction across the School's growing portfolio of academic programs.

These positions offer the opportunity to join a highly collaborative faculty committed to translating research into meaningful improvements in the well-being of individuals, families, and communities, and in the public systems that serve them.

Competitive applicants will demonstrate a strong record, or clear potential, for externally funded research, peer-reviewed publication, and excellence in teaching. The standard tenure-track teaching load is four courses per academic year, with opportunities for course buy-outs based on research funding, and faculty are expected to engage fully in research, teaching, and service to the School, University, profession, and community. This position has a standard distribution of effort that includes 67% teaching and instruction, 16.5% research, and 16.5% service and community engagement.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Doctoral degree in social work or a related field relevant to the School's mission. Evidence of research, scholarship, and practice or policy expertise that advances social well-being and contributes to meaningful social impact.

Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience
- Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of research, scholarship, teaching, and external funding consistent with their career stage. Applications from all areas of social work scholarship will be considered, and preference will be given to applicants whose work addresses substance use prevention and treatment, gender-based and intimate partner violence, and child and family well-being. Experience engaging community partners, translating research into practice and policy, and collaborating across disciplines is highly desirable.
