Position: PROGRAM SUPPORT PUBLIC WORKS GIS

Candidates with a G
IS
experience will be considered for the higher end of the salary range.

Hiring Range: $20-$25 Hourly

The purpose of this position is to perform professional work relating to entering stormwater management infrastructure as-built data into the Enterprise GIS. Work primarily consists of mapping stormwater management infrastructures.

Work is performed under general direction requiring independent judgment. The position includes planning, organizing, coordinating, and performing work relating to a variety of GIS functions and activities for the assigned program. It may also include performing other related duties.

  • Temporary positions do not offer Town benefits.
  • Temporary employees are limited to working 950 hours in a 12-month period.
  • All Town employees must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all drawings and engineering activities relating to all Stormwater Management Division.
  • Perform special project assignments as requested by the Director of Public Works.
  • Provide assistance to other Town Departments during times of public emergencies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table, standing, or stooping. The employee usually lifts light objects.

Work Environment

The work is typically performed in an office environment.

Experience
  • Experience with Arc Map, Arc Pro, georeferencing images, editing vector (points, lines, polygons) data in a professional setting
  • Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student or have a certificate in GIS
Knowledge of:
  • ESRI’s Arc Map or ArcGIS Pro software (Pro is preferred. User will need to learn Pro. The workflow is the same, but the tool layout is different.)
    • Knowledge of basic editing workflows and tools.
    • Georeferencing raster data (images)
    • Some knowledge/experience importing CAD into GIS would be useful
      • Depends on how much of our data is in CAD format.
  • General experience managing data in the ArcGIS environment is preferred
Ability to:
  • Plan, organize, and manage projects
  • Communicate effectively (orally and in writing)
  • Present to a wide variety of audiences with varying levels of expertise
  • Model behaviors that are consistent with our values of RESPECT
Licenses /

Certifications:

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina or the ability to readily obtain one.
