The School of Government ( SOG ) works to improve the lives of North Carolinians by engaging in practical scholarship that help public officials and citizens understand and improve state and local government. The School offers up to 200 courses, webinars, and conferences for more than 12,000 public officials each year. Faculty members annually publish approximately 50 books, reports, articles, bulletins, and other print and online content related to state and local government The School is also home to a nationally ranked graduate program in public administration and specialized centers focused on information technology, environmental finance, and criminal justice reform.
Public Service Matters ( PSM ) is housed at the UNC School of Government. PSM seeks to create the next generation of public service leaders while providing critical support to local governments across North Carolina. PSM supports local governments through pipeline programs that connect talent to local government employment opportunities and a government training support curriculum that connects local governments to the expertise of our faculty to address critical concerns in communities across the state.
PSM is part of the university’s public service mission. The work of PSM is primarily funded through grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and other awards.
The UNC School of Government is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual for the role of Business Coordinator for Public Service Matters, a program of the UNC Chapel Hill School of Government. The Business Coordinator will provide business support to the Public Service Matters team. This position will play a pivotal role in supporting the Lead for NC fellowship and other initiatives of Public Service Matters by engaging in financial tracking, budget reconciliation, grant administration, project tracking, and other similar administrative tasks to support the director, faculty lead, other staff, and fellows in the field.
Responsibilities include the following: financial management, grant administration and program administration.
This position requires the successful candidate to be a self-starter, excellent communicator, well-organized, and a key player in assuring the financial sustainability and administration of Public Service Matters.
This position is contingent upon the continuing availability of funds from sources other than continuing state budget funds or permanent trust funds.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management PreferencesPrevious experience in project coordination, program management, or a related role.
Experience or familiarity with grant administration processes.
Knowledge of North Carolina local government operations is a plus.
