The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is recruiting for a full‑time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to provide inpatient consultation services at UNC Hospitals. The APP will work closely with the PM&R supervising physician, PM&R attendings and residents, and other inpatient providers across UNC Hospitals. This position may help cover our affiliated sub‑acute rehabilitation centers in Raleigh/Apex on an as‑needed basis.
SummaryA Nurse Practitioner functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities- Clinical: Obtain health and medical history, perform thorough physical assessment, review and interpret diagnostic tests, develop differential diagnoses, implement treatment plans including prescribing/ordering evidence‑based pharmacological agents consistent with departmental guidelines and privileging, schedule follow‑up management, conduct preventive health screening, maintain comprehensive records, maintain knowledge of general disease processes, and perform medical procedures consistent with departmental guidelines.
- Education: Educate clients and families regarding medical condition, treatment and follow‑up, develop educational materials, provide instruction to physicians, house staff, nursing, ancillaries and students, attend education programs, and recognize self‑learning needs.
- Leadership: Provide instruction to physicians, house staff, nursing, ancillaries and students through precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, morning report, staff meetings; participate in community/network outreach programs; lead or participate in systems improvements.
- Professional: Interact with patients and families in a respectful, courteous and timely fashion, collaborate with coworkers, respond quickly to meet customer needs, accept responsibility for outcomes, share responsibility for overall workload.
- Quality/Research: Engage in continuous quality improvement by identifying and implementing processes for improvement, consult with management in clinical/system issues, lead interdisciplinary teams, initiate and revise protocols or guidelines, develop new clinical programs or services within the department/unit/clinic to improve patient care.
- Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
- Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (e.g., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina.
- Board certification if required by the Department; DEA registration.
- No prior experience required.
- Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, strong written and verbal communication, and strong analytical skills.
- Documentation in the medical record to substantiate accurate billing.
