Summary:
Responsible for planning and coordinating the ECMO clinical operations. In addition, this role is responsible for technical expertise, database management, outcome measures, ECMO transport, education and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management Assure financial accountability for the department. Review Monthly Financial statements and enter comments in STRATA budget and accounting program. Plan and review annual operating and capital budgets with division director. Assist in the monitoring of inventory for the department and review service/maintenance contracts where appropriate.
Human Resource Management Assure adequate quality and efficiency of staff by adhering to UNC Health Care standards for recruitment, retention, and department productivity measures. Ensure staff competency and assist with staff professional development through exposure to continuing education events, literature, and seminars. Complete annual performance evaluations of all staff. Assure that staff members are actively engaged in program, unit and organization-wide goals.
Assure state mandated certifications for advanced practice are maintained and that personnel files are complete for all employees engaged in managing patients on ECMO.
Leadership - Ensures high customer satisfaction. Advocates for consumers within the organization, in particular for vulnerable or at risk populations. Interacts with other clinical professionals such as physicians, nurses and perfusionists for the betterment of customer service throughout the health system. Represents UNC Healthcare at the national, state, and local levels through involvement with professional associations and organizations relating to ECMO.
Provides clinical direction, procedural expertise and support in all areas of ECMO. Provides direct ECMO practice and expertise, serves as a resource to ECMO staff. Provides periodic review, and feedback to department staff. Provide supervision, counseling, coaching, and evaluation of departmental staff. Participate in the development, implementation and revision of individual performance plans. Participate in the development and implementation of unit or area goals and objectives.
Participate in the planning and problem solving of daily unit/area operations, priorities of patient services, and urgent and emergent care.
Performance Improvement/Safety Interprets and implements policies and procedures and the standards of regulatory agencies. Participate in Policy & Procedure development and review pertaining to ECMO practice. Assure departmental compliance with Joint Commission standards related to ECMO. Maintain effective communication between all members of the multidisciplinary ECMO team including physicians, ECMO specialists, nursing, respiratory therapy, and leadership. Serves as a representative from UNC Hospitals to the Extra Corporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) on all ECMO activities.
Ensures that supply levels are available and appropriate for provision of ECMO services. Rounds on ECMO Specialists weekly and meets monthly with ECMO program medical directors.
Professional and Community Activities Represent the ECMO program through attendance and active participation at Division Meetings and organizational leadership meetings. Actively participate in professional organizations pertaining to ECMO including participation in ELSO.
Research and Teaching Provide lectures to ECMO Specialists, University departments, and house staff. Works with ECMO specialists to foster development of clinical skills and facilitate ongoing advancement within the field.
Strategic Planning Determine methods to improve the value of care and services provided at UNC Health Care. Promote both internal and external customer service through the development and implementation of standards that align with the strategic goals of the organization. Facilitate program coordination with the Departments of Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, Nursing, Perfusion, and UNC Health organizations
Other information:
Education Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care, Perfusion Technology or Nursing required
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Professional license (such as RT, RN)
* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
* Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Seven years of relevant work experience, including at least one year in a management role
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
