Summary:
The Wellness Center Attendant is responsible for providing guest service duties including greeting guests, providing assistance with center equipment, and enforcing fitness center rules. The Wellness Center Attendant is also responsible for maintaining a clean and organized center and assisting team members with opening or closing procedures. They will provide a safe and friendly environment for members and guests including, but not limited to the following areas of the wellness centers: front desk, climbing wall, pools and fitness floor.
- Customer Service - Greet all customers, answer questions, direct members appropriately, handle program registration, telephone calls, check‑in processes, member requests, and other tasks in a friendly and efficient manner. Analyze critical situations and exercise good judgment to arrive at effective solutions. Communicate concerns to appropriate staff and fill out documentation.
- Communication - Communicate with peers, area managers, and use the UNCH associated email, Sharepoint sites, binders. Relay information, report and record information correctly in equipment log, cleaning schedules, opening/closing procedures, maintenance logs, walk‑throughs, etc. Attend all departmental, all‑staff, and supervisor meetings as required.
- Instruction - Conduct new member equipment orientations and fitness clinics, instruct climbers on wall use including climbing and belay techniques. Educate customers on policies and procedures. Perform general receptionist activities.
- Monitoring - Work regularly in all areas (fitness floor, pool, rock wall, front desk) as scheduled. Ensure members and guests follow proper registration according to departmental policies. Assist with inventory restocking and communicate needs to area manager.
- Maintenance - Adhere to equipment maintenance and cleaning schedules. Clean exercise equipment, check safety, maintain pool/spa/sauna chemicals and temperatures, attend spills, change laundry chemicals, clean dryer lint traps. Report malfunctioning equipment immediately.
- Safety - Enforce policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment. Administer CPR/AED/O2, perform water rescue, file incident reports, activate EMS. Identify risks and respond immediately.
- Training - Attend trainings per department to become proficient (Customer Service 101, Exercise Basics, Equipment Orientation, Cleaning/Maintenance Procedures, Fit Linxx Training, Sharepoint, CSI, CPR/AED/O2, Lifeguard Certification, etc.) and strive to further knowledge.
- Education Requirements: None required.
- Licensure/Certification Requirements: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within one (1) month from date of hire. Lifeguard Certification within 90 days from date of hire preferred.
- Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience required.
- Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements: Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Enthusiastic team‑oriented attitude. Capable of lifting towel bins, minor exercise equipment and able to perform a water rescue. Work independently, show initiative, multitasking and time‑management skills. Knowledge of fitness and health including cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, body composition. Understanding of risks associated with exercise participation. Ability to use a computer, word processing programs and other software.
