This position is based in the Central Inpatient Pharmacy and supports the entire UNC Medical Center, including all six hospitals. We are seeking a highly motivated, detail‑oriented, and adaptable Pharmacy Technician who thrives in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.

In this vital role, you will contribute to high‑impact patient care by supporting the preparation, distribution, and timely delivery of medications to patient care units, surgical suites, and emergency departments. The position requires precision, strong teamwork, and resilience.

Responsibilities
  • Compounds and/or prepares medications (sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) with the exception of high‑risk medication processes as defined by the entity, as authorized by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
  • Delivers exchange medications to the respective patient area and returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
  • Documents pharmaceutical activities including patient billing for medications and equipment, quality control requirements, etc. using automated and paper systems. Ensures accuracy of data.
  • Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services such as medication delivery, drug information, etc.
  • Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients, according to pharmacist and physician orders.
  • Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management.
  • Contributes to process improvement projects.
  • Completes regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP
    797 and other regulatory documentation as required.
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
  • Active pharmacy technician registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy (NCBOP) within 30 days of hire.
  • Must obtain pharmacy technician certification from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Health career Association (NHA) within 24 months of hire unless registered with the NCBOP as a pharmacy intern and actively enrolled in a Pharm

    D program.

  • Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
