Position: Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) - SOM Med Digestiv

Summary

A Nurse Practitioner functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost‑effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical – Obtains relevant health and medical history, performs thorough physical assessment, reviews and interprets pertinent diagnostic tests/results; develops appropriate differential diagnoses; designs and implements evidence‑based treatment plans, including prescribing and ordering medications consistent with departmental guidelines; schedules appropriate follow‑up; incorporates evidence‑based hospital initiatives; conducts preventive health screening; maintains clear concise records; stays current with general disease processes and specialty literature;

    revise plan of care to meet changing needs; prioritizes work, assists staff to provide prompt and efficient client flow; maintains high productivity; leads or participates in projects to improve productivity; performs medical procedures consistent with departmental guidelines, privileging, and clinical roles.

  • Education – Appropriately and professionally educates clients and families regarding medical conditions, treatment, and follow‑up; collaborates with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity and patient/family‑centered care; develops educational materials; provides instruction to physicians, house staff, nursing, ancillaries, and students; recognizes and participates in self‑learning needs; attends education programs as required.

  • Leadership – Provides instruction to physicians, house staff, nursing, ancillaries, and students through precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, morning report, or staff meetings; participates in community or network outreach programs; develops or leads outreach programs; demonstrates understanding of the contexts and systems in which healthcare is provided and applies this knowledge to improve and optimise health care delivery; leads or participates in systems improvements.

  • Professional – Interacts with patients and families in a respectful, courteous, and timely manner using appropriate communication; collaborates with coworkers and other team members respectfully and timely; responds quickly to meet customer needs and resolve problems; accepts responsibility for outcomes and shares overall workload with team members.

  • Quality / Research – Engages in continuous quality improvement by identifying and implementing processes for improvement; consults with management on assessment, problem‑solving, decision‑making, and evaluation of clinical/system issues and care models; leads interdisciplinary teams for integrated delivery of patient care services; initiates and revises protocols or guidelines to reflect evidence‑based changes; influences policy‑making bodies to improve patient care; develops new clinical programs or services within the department to improve patient outcomes.

    Information Education Requirements
    • Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
    Licensure / Certification Requirements
    • Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina.
    • Board certification if required by the Department.
    • DEA registration.
