Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 2nd shift. Specific hours to be discussed at interview with occasional weekends included. Position does not require on call shifts. The University is closed on major holidays.

Location: Chapel Hill, NC (North Carolina, US)

Hiring Range: $66,040 – $80,000 ($31.75/hr – $38.46/hr). Additional 10% shift premium for 2nd shift.

Position Summary

A SIGN – ON BONUS OF $5,000 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT, PAID IN TWO INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE: $2,500 within 30 days of hire date and $2,500 12 months after hire date. See eligibility for Sign‑on Bonus in the Special Instructions section.

Primary purpose of the position is to facilitate MRI services for the Biomedical Research Imaging Center (BRIC) utilizing technical and administrative expertise. Technical responsibilities include providing safety for research subjects during studies and conducting MRI, MR/PET, PET/CT, and CT studies with and without radioactive nuclides. Administrative responsibilities include proper use of the scheduling system, adherence to safety standards and SOPs, logging machine time for billing, and managing relationships with investigators.

This work involves caring for research subjects and clinical patients of all ages, from children as young as 2 weeks to adults. Applicants should exhibit comfort working with a wide range of patients, from healthy to severely ill or end‑of‑life.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in medical diagnostics; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require additional training, certifications or licenses.
Required Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience
  • Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists with certification in Magnetic Resonance (or equivalent licensure or certification). Registry and certification eligible candidates must obtain certification within one year.
  • Experience with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
  • Desire and ability to work in both research and clinical imaging environments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, investigators, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently, be self‑directed, maintain professionalism, and multitask in a research setting.
  • Awareness of radiation exposure when working with tracers and related equipment.
Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, and Experience
  • Training, experience, and certification in high field MRI (3T and 7T), Nuclear Medicine/Positron Emission Tomography (PET), diagnostic Computed Tomography (CT) and MIMvista software.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in imaging research.

Special Instructions – Sign‑On Bonus Eligibility

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool and meet state policy requirements.

  • Eligibility for a sign‑on bonus requires a newly hired permanent full‑time employee or permanent part‑time employee (more than 20 hours per week). The bonus is prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week.
  • An employee is ineligible if:
    • They held an SHRA position in North Carolina state government or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months.
    • They previously received a sign‑on bonus from any North Carolina state agency or university.
    • The university has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

This SHRA Sign‑On Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. All recipients must sign the Pay Back Agreement form. Additional information regarding the SHRA Sign‑On Policy can be found in the university’s SHRA documentation.
