- Hiring Range: $64,020 – $81,803
The primary purpose of this Registered Nurse position is to provide nursing services with a focus on the care of participants who volunteer for clinical research studies conducted primarily in an ambulatory setting. The RN will deliver high‑quality care to both healthy volunteers and individuals with a wide range of medical conditions, in accordance with federal regulations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and institutional policies.
The RN supports study implementation across multiple care environments, including the NC TraCS Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC), UNC Medical Center, and designated research locations on the UNC campus. The role ensures participant safety, supports protocol integrity, and promotes accurate data collection while maintaining care that is safe, timely, effective, equitable, compassionate, and patient‑centered.
Care requirements will be determined by the scope of study participation, the clinical condition of the participant and the requirements and clinical effects of research procedures. Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Providing direct, individualized care to adult and pediatric research patients
- Phlebotomy and IV insertion
- Administration of investigational medications
- Monitoring and observation
- Performing ECGs
- Collecting and processing biological specimens and other data
- Providing direction and health teaching where applicable in relation to study protocol activities
- Reporting and recording care rendered, and the patient’s response to that care
- Contributing to the CTRC’s continuous quality improvement programs, including training of non‑licensed research personnel
- License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina
- Strong nursing knowledge with experience in pediatrics, medical‑surgical care, clinical research, IV/phlebotomy, and biotherapy or investigational medications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Effective communication and teamwork skills; ability to work diplomatically with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Positive, adaptable, and supportive team member who contributes to a collaborative work environment
- Organizational and attention‑to‑detail skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain accuracy while working independently or within a team
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license
- Visual attention and mental concentration required by the clinical nature of the work
- Ability to remain in front of a computer for extended periods
- Ability to move 30 lbs with or without accommodation
- Ability to travel within the hospital, on campus, and to off‑site locations for research on‑location functions with or without accommodation
- Clinic – UNCH or ACC, occasional evening work, exposure to blood borne pathogens, laboratory work, on‑call occasionally, overtime occasionally, patient care involved, rotating shifts occasionally, weekend work occasionally
