Nursing Assistant I (Nights) - Acute Care Trauma and General Surgery

Nursing Assistant I needed for the Acute Care Trauma and General Surgery Unit - 5 Bedtower. This is a 36 hours per week position; working 12 hour night shifts (7pm-7:30am) with weekend and holiday rotation. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package including PTO hours, which are accrued based on the number of worked hours.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least six months of direct patient care experience in a hospital setting.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English and basic computer skills.
Education, Licensure, and Certification
  • Required:

    Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and with procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
  • Aid patients in reality orientation, participate in behavior modification plans/therapy, provide support therapy to patients and families, de‑escalate potentially aggressive patients, manage aggressive/out‑of‑control patients, facilitate age‑appropriate play for children, and monitor therapeutic milieu activities on the assigned unit to ensure emotional and safety needs are met.
  • Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient’s condition to a registered nurse or physician.
  • Provide assistance to patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge processes.
  • Provide care/treatments as outlined in the plan of care including, but not limited to, measurement of vital signs, height and weight, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range‑of‑motion exercises, postural drainage, and supportive patient and family interactions.
  • Provide direct personal care for routine activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and ambulation.
  • Provide indirect care to patients and the assigned area, including cleaning the work area, changing linens, restocking supplies, cleaning/sterilizing instruments, transporting patients/supplies/specimens, assisting new employees and students, and routine clerical functions.
  • Reinforce routine teaching given by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions; distribute patient education materials upon request.
