UNC Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Department of Neurosurgery - Spine Team in an outpatient position. The APP will work closely with neurosurgeons in the evaluation, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with spine conditions, spine deformities, and spinal oncology. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive outpatient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and imaging, developing and implementing evidence‑based treatment plans, and providing pre‑ and post‑operative care and patient education.
The APP will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and optimize patient outcomes. Prior experience in neurosurgery or spine is preferred but not required.
A Physician Assistant functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities. Obtain relevant health and medical history, perform a thorough physical assessment, review and interpret diagnostic tests, develop differential diagnoses, prescribe and order appropriate evidence‑based pharmacological agents, schedule follow‑up management, maintain comprehensive records, incorporate evidence‑based initiatives, conduct preventive health screening, and maintain professional knowledge.
. Educate clients, families, clinicians, staff, and students about medical conditions, treatments, and follow‑up care. Develop educational materials and provide instruction to physicians, house staff, nursing, ancillaries, and students.
. Provide instruction to physicians, house staff, nursing, ancillaries, and students; lead precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, and staff meetings; participate in community and network outreach programs; and lead systems improvement initiatives.
. Interact with patients and families in a respectful, courteous, and timely manner, collaborate with coworkers, and respond quickly to meet customer needs, sharing responsibility for overall workload.
. Engage in continuous quality improvement, consult management on clinical and system issues, lead interdisciplinary teams, initiate and revise protocols, influence policy‑making bodies, and develop new clinical programs or services within the department.

Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. - Licensure/Certification Requirements
:
Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in North Carolina; board certification if required; DEA. - Professional Experience Requirements

Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership skills, strong interpersonal and analytical skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, effective communication, and documentation for accurate billing.
