Overview
UNC Campus Health at Carolina is a multi‑specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, affordable health care for eligible students, faculty, staff, and spouses. The clinic annually serves more than 80,000 patient encounters, including primary care, gynecology, sports medicine, orthopedics, physical therapy, acupuncture, counseling, travel clinic, and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8‑5 pm. On‑site ancillary services include pharmacy, OTC pharmacy, student store pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.
Campus Health partners with Student Wellness, Campus Recreation, and other Student Affairs to promote campus health through education and outreach. It also offers clinical rotations and practicum placements for health‑science students and serves as a research site for faculty and graduate‑student projects.
The Physician Practice Nurse in Orthopedics works in a sports‑medicine–focused setting, providing direct patient care across a broad range of conditions from acute injuries to chronic concerns. Responsibilities include injury triage, post‑surgical care, and assistance with procedures such as joint injections, casting, and splinting, in addition to primary care duties. The role serves as a liaison between providers and patients, supporting clinical procedures, patient education, and specialty‑specific care to promote optimal outcomes.
Responsibilities- Maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate competence in patient‑care skills within RN scope, including assessment, exam assistance, medication administration, and education.
- Process orders, return patient calls, and notify diagnostic results as directed by physicians.
- Appropriately document care in the medical record.
- Facilitate effective patient flow and assist with prioritization of work assignments.
- Assist with supply management and conduct medical equipment safety checks; document findings.
- Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics and utilize evidence‑based practices.
- Follow safety and regulatory guidelines (HIPAA, OSHA, infection prevention) and participate in unit‑based performance improvement.
- Provide excellent customer service, communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, and work collaboratively in a team.
- Diploma, associate degree (ADN), or bachelor’s degree (BSN) from an accredited nursing school.
- Licensed Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
- BCLS certification.
- Prior experience in a physician office, urgent care, or emergency department preferred.
- Reading, analyzing, and interpreting clinical information; documenting clinical data; effectively communicating with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Mathematical skills: fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical contexts.
- Reasoning: problem definition, data collection, fact establishment, and drawing valid conclusions.
