Unit Highlights- 22 bed acute medicine unit
- Nurse/Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Primary patient diagnoses include:
- End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) requiring Hemo or Peritoneal Dialysis
- Acute Kidney Injury
- Chronic Kidney Disease
- Dialysis Access Issues
- Renal Transplant Rejection
- Autoimmune disorders
- Three 12 hr shifts per week (36 hrs)

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities- Education – Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self; attend education programs; use patient education materials; assess readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers; assess developmental level and factors affecting ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance in revision of plan of care; participate in discussions with interdisciplinary team; communicate relevant information for continuity of care.
- Implementation – Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing; utilize healthcare organization and nursing standards; organize and prioritize care according to patient/family needs; consult resources timely for complex care issues.
- Leadership – Develop goals to promote professional growth; achieve goals within time frame; be knowledgeable about intra/interdepartmental collaboration; participate in unit goals; use communication systems; promote cost‑effective care; give feedback; promote a safe, clean and secure hospital environment.
- Patient Assessment – Recognize data to determine priorities; synthesize assessment data; anticipate discharge needs; develop relationships with families to promote advocacy.
- Planning – Collaborate with patient/family to prepare/update plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; identify cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for complex problems.
- Research – Read relevant journals; bring ideas and questions for staff assessment of applicability.
- Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
- If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
- One (1) year of nursing experience.
