Description

UNC Medical Center is hiring an Experienced RN for Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Intermediate Unit.

5 Children's is a 24 bed acute and intermediate care unit dedicated to comprehensive, family-centered care of pediatric hematology, oncology, bone marrow transplant, and cardiac patients. We also provide care for general medicine and surgical patients. The patients on this unit range from birth through adolescence and sometimes into early adulthood.

Schedule
  • 36 hours per week with day/night rotation
  • Weekend rotation
  • Holiday rotation
  • Flexible self-scheduling

While pediatric experience is preferred, it is not required. We offer comprehensive training that includes pediatric perspectives, preparing you to deliver the highest quality care to this unique patient population.

Summary:

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities
  • Education – Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self, attends education programs based on identified learning needs, and uses patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
  • Evaluation of Care – Identifies expected patient outcomes, seeks guidance as needed in revision of plan of care, participates in discussion with interdisciplinary team, communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  • Implementation – Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, performs bedside point of care testing as required, utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures, organizes and prioritizes care, consults with resources for complex care issues.
  • Leadership – Develops professional growth goals, achieves objectives within time frames, participates in unit goals, uses communication systems, promotes cost-effective care, gives feedback, and maintains a safe environment.
  • Patient Assessment – Recognizes data from complex situations, synthesizes assessment data, and anticipates discharge needs while developing relationships with families.
  • Planning – Collaborates with patients/families in planning or updating care, uses multidisciplinary resources, addresses cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritizes tasks for complex patients.
  • Research – Reads applicable journals, brings ideas to staff for assessment of applicability.

    Education Requirements:

    • Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
    • If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.

    Licensure/Certification Requirements:

    • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

    Professional Experience Requirements:

    • One year of nursing experience.
