RN Clinical Nurse II (Per Diem)- Abdominal Transplant/Urology/Plastic Surgery Acute Care

5 West is seeking a Clinical Nurse II for Per Diem.

5 West is a 15-bed unit dedicated to caring for abdominal transplant, urology, and plastic surgery patients. Our patient care team delivers highly specialized cutting‑edge care. Each year we perform over 125 kidney, pancreas, and liver transplants. Our transplant program is certified by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and is one of the most accomplished and devoted transplant teams in the region.

The Kidney Transplant Team was recently named number one in the United States for one‑year survival rates.

5 West strives to improve clinical outcomes through an interprofessional approach of education, research, and clinical medicine. This unit is the inpatient home for the nationally ranked UNC Urology department partnering with the physicians to deliver individualized care in a coordinated and compassionate manner. In addition to urology and abdominal transplant, our staff cares for high‑risk plastic surgery patients requiring reconstructive grafts & tissue‑injury surgery.

These patients have complex wound management needs that our expert staff manages.

Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities
  • Education – Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self, attend education programs, use patient education materials, assess patient/family readiness to learn.
  • Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes, seek guidance in revising plan of care, participate in interdisciplinary discussions, communicate information for continuity of care.
  • Implementation – Demonstrate competence caring for patients with complex problems, perform bedside testing, follow organization standards, prioritize care, consult resources timely.
  • Leadership – Develop goals, achieve objectives, collaborate intra/interdepartmentally, participate in unit goals & improvement, use communication systems, promote cost‑effective care, give feedback, adhere to policy, promote safe environment.
  • Patient Assessment – Recognize data from complex situations, prioritize care, synthesize assessment, anticipate discharge needs, develop relationships with families.
  • Planning – Collaborate with patient/family to update plan, use multidisciplinary resources, communicate planning, address cultural issues, prioritize tasks.
  • Research – Read relevant journals, bring ideas to staff for applicability.
Education Requirements
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements
  • One (1) year of relevant and current experience.
