Driver (15-Passenger)– Day Camps PAY: $17.85 per hour What We’re Looking for
Energetic, enthusiastic, and positive individuals to join a thriving and diverse team that is committed to excellence! Individuals hired into this position will be responsible for operating 15 passenger vans and safely driving summer camp participants.
Because this position may work with children in various capacities, anyone hired for this position is required under NC State law to be fingerprinted and cleared for employment by the NC State Bureau of Investigation. The Town manages this process as part of its new hire screening.
This position is open until filled and may close without notice.
What You’ll Do At Work Drive!Operate 15 passenger vans to transport campers, pick up and deliver meals, and other departmental needs. Follow safety regulations and employ techniques of defensive driving to minimize the risk of accidents.
Inspect Vehicles.Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Promptly report safety hazards.
Communicate.Develop relationships with staff and campers, be empathic, build trust, and display patience. Mediate and resolve conflicts.

Learn and Grow.Attend and participate in staff orientation, trainings, and meetings. Develop relationships with co-workers, give and receive feedback, and provide input.
Support.Set up, break down, and maintain supplies and equipment. Be flexible and adapt to changes; assist and support where needed.
Where You’ll WorkYou’ll be working both indoors, outdoors, and in vehicles, at schools, recreation centers, parks, playgrounds, trails, and swimming pools. Summer Camp runs June - August, and you may experience hot temperatures and inclement weather.
When You’ll WorkYou’ll be required to attend up to 40 hours of orientation and trainings which will take place between June 8 and June 21, 2026.
June 22 – August 7, 2026, you’ll work anywhere between 20 and 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Some rare evening and weekend work may be required. Additional evening and weekend work may be optional to help support departmental programs and facility operations.
Additional optional work may be available between August 10 and August 21, 2026.
The Town celebrates Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, 2026, and Independence Day on Friday, July 3, 2026. There will be no camp, and staff will have these days off!

- Access to Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation facilities:
Chapel Hill Community Center, Nate Davis Sr. Gym, and the Homestead Aquatics Center; includes Basketball, Volleyball, Pickleball, Rock Climbing, and Swimming during drop‑in hours.
- Are 21 years of age or older with a valid North Carolina Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
- Speak well enough to effectively communicate with campers and/or their parents in Burmese, Karen, Spanish, and/or Mandarin.
This classification has been designated as Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Work requires the ability to perform the physical duties of the job which includes lifting a minimum of 20 lbs.
