About UsThe NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. Additionally, the department manages many of the state's advocacy programs that provide assistance and services to diverse segments of the state's population that have been traditionally underserved.

Description of Work The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled Grounds Supervisor II for our Facility Management Division. The Facility Management Division provides preventive, routine and emergency maintenance and repair services to the State Government complex and some facilities used by government workers in outlying areas.

This position is responsible for the landscaping and grounds maintenance for the Executive Mansion, Hawkins Hartness House, Andrew London House, Bailey Tucker House, Heck Andrews House, Handy House, Jenkins House, border of Parking Lot 50, flower beds on the Capitol grounds, and the operation of a greenhouse that provides seedlings and plants for the Governor’s Mansion. In addition, the employee is responsible for the repair of items such as furniture and appliances, supply pick up, pest problems, and coordination with maintenance staff for the Governor’s Mansion.

Supervision of temporary employees, and at times, inmate workers are also required.

Key Responsibilities:

Ability to plan and manage the work of subordinates, including performance evaluations and resolving employee relations issues.

Preparing for and planting shrubs, trees, flowers, and lawns.

Installing hardened landscape structures

Implementing scheduled landscape maintenance

Diagnosing diseased shrubs, trees, flowers, and lawns and taking remedial action

Assisting in repair of landscape equipment.

Maintaining beds including pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, and spraying of plant material.

Requires the use of special tools for cultivation, maintenance and transportation of plants and repair of landscape equipment.

Applying chemicals and water to plants, turf, or plant collection.

Pest control within and on the exterior of buildings.

MAX SALARY FOR THIS POSITION IS: $63,829

Recruitment Range: $39,244-$63,829

Considerable knowledge of the horticultural principles and practices applicable to landscaping, maintenance, and upkeep of grounds, flowers, and shrubs.

Considerable knowledge of ornamental shrubs, plants, and flowers and their uses in landscaping buildings and garden areas.

Ability to supervise and participate in the maintenance and repair of tractors, mowers, and other equipment used in grounds upkeep.

Ability to plan and direct the work of a grounds maintenance unit.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with institutional personnel and commercial landscape firms and nurseries.
