Primary Purpose of Organizational UnitThe Department of Cell Biology and Physiology is a broad and interdisciplinary basic science department in the School of Medicine at UNC-CH. As a top-ranked, nationally recognized leader in basic science research, our faculty and staff are engaged in innovative and cutting-edge research in the areas of neuroscience, cardiovascular biology, cellular cytoskeleton, cell motility and imaging. The Department houses one PhD program: the Cell Biology and Physiology Curriculum in which there are currently enrolled 48 PhD candidates.
The Department has approximately 55 faculty engaged in basic science research, education, and national service. Many faculty and their laboratories provide training for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees in the biomedical sciences. The department also has 2 Core Facilities to expedite the mission of our researchers.
The Philpot laboratory develops therapeutics for single gene disorders. We are seeking a research technician to perform research tasks in the lab as well as help with lab management duties. Research tasks will include performing mouse behavioral experiments, mouse colony organization and breeding, histological assays (e.g. immunocytochemistry), confocal microscopy, tissue collections and processing (dissections, sectioning, immunohistochemistry), and data analysis. This position will require animal handling.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsDemonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Management Preferences- Prior laboratory experience in a related field such as Microscopy, Immunohistochemistry or Genotyping
- Understanding of rodent behavior
- Basic understanding of neuroscience
This position will require animal handling.
- Must be able to stand up to 6 hours/day
- Must be able to move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to climb a step ladder
