Position SummaryThe Clinical Genome Resource (Clin Gen) is an NIH‑funded consortium dedicated to building an authoritative central resource that defines the clinical relevance of genes and variants for precision medicine. The Research Associate/Senior Coordinator will support the UNC‑specific objectives for Clin Gen directed by Dr. Jonathan Berg, providing project management, leadership to global working groups, liaison with international experts, and training of junior staff.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and train expert panel members on biocuration and mandatory processes as defined by Clin Gen.
- Facilitate the work of several Clin Gen Clinical Domain Working Groups (CDWGs) in various stages of launching, scaling and sustaining.
- Prepare necessary paperwork, onboard and mentor new participants, schedule and lead meetings.
- Compose grant reports, author reports and papers, and present updates at conferences and meetings.
- Supervise junior members, including assistant coordinators, and oversee training.
- Monitor working group progress, provide feedback and updates, and represent the group to NIH leadership.
- Maintain strong communication with UNC Biocuration and Coordination Core and external collaborators.
- Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree required (or foreign equivalent). Candidates with a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience coordinating expert panels or groups.
- Strong work ethic and sense of purpose.
- Knowledge of biology principles, central dogma of genetics, and basic understanding of physiology and disease.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Degree in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD).
- 5+ years of relevant experience coordinating expert panels and/or groups, or a Master’s with at least 2 years post‑degree experience, or a PhD with at least 1 year post‑degree experience.
- Experience managing small development groups and supervising junior members.
- Well‑versed in genetics and genomic medicine.
- Ability to instruct others on complex curation processes and lead, coordinate, organize, and interact with diverse groups.
