Associate Director for Basic Cancer Research (AD BCR) – Senior faculty rank within the School of Medicine, with an administrative appointment as Associate Director. This role is for an established, NCI‑funded independent investigator with interdisciplinary translational research in cancer biology and a record of high‑impact publications and extramural grant funding.
Core Responsibilities- Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty.
- Serve on the Lineberger Senior Leadership Team and assist in recruiting junior faculty.
- Build close working relationships with Program Leaders and Shared Resource Directors.
- Participate in team‑science initiatives.
- Review grant applications and investigator‑initiated clinical trials to ensure basic science integration when requested.
- Attend and actively participate in LCCC research program meetings to promote inclusion of basic science concepts.
- Represent the program at NCI site visits and annual External Advisory Board meetings, as directed by the Cancer Center Director.
- Collaborate with fellow Associate Directors to create a scientific community that reflects all NCI‑designated comprehensive cancer center components.
- Minimum: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD; relevant leadership experience; exceptional writing skills for grant applications and peer‑reviewed publications; strong track record of collaborations with basic, clinical, and translational scientists.
- Preferred: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; relevant NCI cancer center program leadership experience.
