Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

Since 1966, researchers at the Carolina Population Center have pioneered data collection and research techniques that move population science forward by emphasizing life course approaches, longitudinal surveys, the integration of biological measurement into social surveys, and attention to context and environment. We are also at the forefront of creating interdisciplinary training programs that integrate approaches from the social and biological sciences, building research capacity and training the next generation of scholars.

Our faculty fellows address pressing research questions about population dynamics, fertility, health, mortality, migration, and the environment. Faculty come from multiple disciplines, benefit ting from the cross-pollination of ideas. Position Summary:

Carolina Demography is partnering with the NC Department of Health and Human Services on a project to improve how the state collects data on race and ethnicity. We are hiring a Research Associate to assist with drafting a policy brief outlining the existing literature on the topic and our policy recommendations. The Carolina Demography Research Associate will work directly with the Carolina Demography Director and faculty advisors on the policy brief.

Minimum

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Management Preferences:
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise on the history and complexity of the collection of data on race and ethnicity on vital statistics.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina's changing demographics.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific findings to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
