Position Summary
Property Security Officer responsible for safeguarding the university’s facilities, including CCTV monitoring, patrol operations, and emergency response. Duties encompass securing doors and windows, escorting persons and vehicles, and maintaining communication with UNC Dispatch.
Responsibilities- Patrol interior and exterior areas ensuring doors, windows, and security posts are secure.
- Lock and unlock doors in accordance with post orders.
- Verify identification of suspicious individuals and report incidents to supervisors and UNC Dispatch.
- Assist employees and guests with escorts, disabled vehicle access, and respond to hazards, power outages, and heating/cooling problems.
- Maintain daily activity reports and monitor radio traffic.
- Guard property against fire, damage, theft, and other hazards.
- Recognize and report unusual or suspicious situations.
- Operate and maintain security equipment and provide vehicle escorts as requested.
- Communicate crime or emergency information to responding officers via UNC Dispatch.
- Work independently and adapt to changing circumstances, including nightly schedules and occasional overtime.
- Collaborate with TPS Parking Enforcement for citations and towing.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion in all duties.
High school diploma or equivalent with demonstrated competencies. Law enforcement or security experience preferred; familiarity with the UNC Chapel Hill campus is a plus. A valid North Carolina driver’s license may be required.
Physical and Mental Requirements- Ability to patrol on foot, climb stairs, and work independently.
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs.
- Capability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and occasional overtime under emergency conditions.
This role is designated as a Campus Security Authority per the Clery Act and must report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual reporting training.
