Position Summary

Temporary contract Security Guard positions are available at UNC facilities. Positions typically range 20–30 hours per week and are held for at least 6 months, potentially up to a year. Uniforms are furnished, but candidates must provide solid black shoes and a belt and adhere to departmental grooming standards.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine foot patrols or patrols using an assigned safety golf cart.
  • Lock and unlock doors as necessary.
  • Inspect and document any damage to University property, reporting findings to the appropriate department.
  • Assist staff, visitors, and service seekers with directions, information, and escorts, including disabled vehicle services.
  • Respond to equipment malfunctions, power outages, heating/cooling issues, chemical spills, fire, and other health or safety incidents, reporting them to UNC dispatch as appropriate.
  • Maintain a detailed log of all activities while on duty.
  • Arrive on time and in proper uniform attire.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High‑school diploma or equivalent and possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license. A clean driving record is required. Preferred candidates have law‑enforcement or security experience.

Physical/Mental Requirements

Must be able to work independently, complete required training, perform foot patrols, climb stairs, and lift or move items up to approximately 25 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

The role is designated as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act. Guardians must report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training on reporting responsibilities.
