purpose of organizational unit
building services provide full maintenance and repair services for all unc facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the unc mission of teaching, research and public service. Building services supports more than 400 campus buildings with approximately 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the university include campus maintenance, emcs, facilities operations support, housing support, hvac systems, and life safety services.
Housing support is an effective team of employees providing maintenance and repair services, including a safe and secure environment for the 9000 students living in 37 residence halls and 700 apartments. Trade skills include cabinetmaking, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, electronics, sheet metal, roofing, painting and hvac. We identify, estimate, plan and complete minor facility renovation projects via our own housing support internal shops, facilities services construction shops, and/or private contractors.
We provide year-round, 24-hour customer service to our resident students and housing staff. Housing support also conducts all scheduled facility maintenance inspections within its facilities. This unit is the primary point of contact for the residence halls and dispatches the request to the appropriate shop.
a sign-on bonus of $4,081 is available for the successful applicant of this position paid in 2 installments within 12 months of hire: $2,040.50 within 30 days of hire date & $2, months after hire date.
performs general carpentry, minor electrical and general plumbing repairs and has daily contact with department of housing and residential education and facilities services housing support staff and has responsibility for doing a great deal of planning to ensure minimal impact on students and staff while performing duties and responsibilities.
