The primary purpose of this position is to function as a Lead of Steam & Specialized water piping systems (Campus recreational pools and wastewater treatment management) for the Campus Maintenance Plumbing Shop. Position functions as the lead technical resource for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of general building steam, specialized water system piping, drains, fittings, valves, valve assemblies, and devices that are associated with the distribution of steam and specialized water piping systems heating, washing, fire protection, and the removal of waterborne wastes.

Position must be highly knowledgeable and skilled in working with water and sprinkler system piping, tubing, and plumbing fixtures, and water system components that include, but are not limited to: water meters, pumps, expansion tanks, backflow arrestors, water filters, UV sterilization lights, water softeners, water heaters, gauges, control valves and control systems, sanitary drainage and venting, dual potable water supplies (hot and cold water), water pressure booster pumps, pressure reducing valves, fire/sprinkler heads, and irrigation and well systems.

Position must be proficient with specialized plumbing tools to include: pipe wrenches, flaring pliers, pipe vice, pipe bending machines, pipe cutters, dies and joining tools such as soldering torches and crimp tools. Position should be familiar with the use of video cameras for inspections of hidden leaks or problems, use of hydro jets, and high-pressure hydraulic pumps and be familiar with the environmental benefits and sizable energy savings of hot water heat recycling units and ecological concerns with water conservation, shortages, and graywater recovery and treatment systems.

Provide technical support to all technicians/personnel assigned to the Campus Maintenance Plumbing Shop. Perform and/or assist in the training and orientation of new technicians/personnel assigned to the Campus Maintenance Plumbing Shop. Ensures assigned area workload schedules are accomplished as issued. Notifies the Plumbing Shop Supervisor immediately of any desired and/or necessary deviations, delays, or early completions that are needed in the assigned schedule.

Ensures a proper shop stock of miscellaneous fixtures, control system boards and spare parts, and plumbing and/or hardware items are readily available for repairs. Ensures and maintains an adequate inventory of equipment/parts received for shop stock are kept organized and ready for emergency and/or routine repairs. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the shop and assigned installation service vehicle. This position must be knowledgeable in all applicable codes of this trade to be capable of performing design and engineering reviews specifications and plans of new buildings, building systems, upgrades and renovations.

Submits review comments to the Plumbing Shop Supervisor. Consults with equipment/system manufacturers and/or equipment designers for recommended system operating changes or additional system equipment requirements to obtain optimal results for applications when required. This position will be expected to fill in for the Plumbing Shop supervisor when unavailable.

• A valid North Carolina Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date. Also requires a NC State Inspector's License or the ability to achieve certification within six months of hire.
• Spray Irrigation and Waste Water license for NC and/or a CPO certificate.
