purpose of organizational unit
building services provide full maintenance and repair services for all unc facilities and ensure the proper operation of those facilities in support of the unc mission of teaching, research and public service. Building services supports more than 400 campus buildings with more than 18 million gross square feet of space. The teams that provide quality maintenance, repair and construction services that support the teaching, research, and public service mission of the university include campus maintenance, emcs, facilities operations support, housing support, hvac systems, life safety services, and the office of waste reduction and recycling.
Campus maintenance operates, maintains and improves the physical environment of the university through a complete line of shop services that include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, insulation, preventive maintenance and special laboratory equipment repair.
a sign-on bonus of $4,668 is available for the successful applicant of this position paid in two installments within 12 months of hire: $2,334 within 30 days of hire date and $2,334 12 months after hire date.
This position is responsible for maintaining, installing, and repairing steam systems and components on existing building systems.
Requires a valid north carolina driver’s license or ability to obtain one prior to hire date.
high school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
management preferences- ability to demonstrate working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in commercial steam maintenance and repair.
- demonstrated competencies in maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of facility components.
- ability to read and comprehend blueprints and plumbing schematics.
