Electrician

A sign-on bonus of $4,668 is available for the successful applicant of this position paid in two installments within 12 months of hire: $2,334 within 30 days of hire date and $2,334 12 months after hire date.

Performs all types of electrical construction work on in-house projects including electrical installations and major maintenance from the load side of service transformer to the last device. Duties include but are not limited to properly and safely using and operating the associated powered or hand tools of the electrical trade; maintenance, repair, replacement, fabrication, installation, alteration; reading and interpreting construction blueprints and detailed job descriptions;

creating a materials take-off list and completing purchase requisitions for needed materials; completing purchase requisitions for other purchases (tools and tool accessories as necessary); and the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication and adherence to safety. Knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E. Must be able to read and interpret complex electrical/schematics and prints.

Must possess a valid NC Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one prior to hire.

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Demonstrated experience in electrical construction preferred. Must possess a valid NC Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one prior to hire.

Ability to move up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and scaffolding, and a high degree of hand-eye coordination and hand manipulation. Ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of essential (mandatory) University operations even when adverse weather or other emergency events, including a public health emergency that may require the University to close.

Evening work occasionally, night work occasionally, on-call, overtime occasionally, valid NC Driver's License, weekend work occasionally.
