Position Summary

AI/LLM Post-Doc Research Associate – The Center for Virtual Care Value and Excellence (ViVE) at UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Nursing is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to join its AI research team. The role involves contributing to cutting‑edge projects that leverage large language models and clinical data analysis to improve healthcare delivery.

• Collaborate with researchers to design, develop, and refine large language and generative models.
• Develop novel algorithms for generative modeling tasks and optimize LLM/GPT‑like models on large datasets.
• Stay abreast of advancements in language modeling and generative AI research.
• Apply expertise to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, completed within the last two years.

• Expertise in Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and deep learning frameworks.
• Proficiency in Python and frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensor Flow, Hugging Face Transformers, or Lang Chain.
• Familiarity with clinical or healthcare data (e.g., EHRs, clinical notes, structured claims data).
• Proven research record with peer‑reviewed publications in relevant fields.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

• Experience with distributed parallel training and parameter‑efficient tuning.
• Familiarity with multimodal foundation models, HITL techniques, and prompt engineering.
• Experience with LLM fine‑tuning, prompt engineering, or retrieval‑augmented generation.
• Experience deploying large‑scale machine learning models in cloud environments.
