** Position Summary
** A
** Direct Support Professional (DSP)
** provides essential support to individuals with
** Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)**, promoting independence, inclusion, and overall quality of life. Working in both home and community-based settings, DSPs assist with daily living activities, health monitoring, and social engagement while ensuring safety, dignity, and respect for each individual’s unique needs.
** Key Responsibilities
**** 1. Assisting with Daily Living and Personal Care
*** Support with
** personal hygiene**, including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
* Assist with
** meal preparation and feeding
** as necessary.
* Provide
** medication reminders or assistance
** according to established care plans.
* Support
** toileting and hygiene needs
** while maintaining privacy and dignity.
** 2. Promoting Independence and Skill Building
*** Help individuals develop essential
** life skills
** such as budgeting, shopping, and home organization.
* Encourage and reinforce
** independence
* * through guided instruction and patient support.
* Facilitate learning of
** social and communication skills
** in everyday contexts.
* Promote active participation in
** social, education al, and recreational
** activities.
** 3. Behavioral Support
*** Monitor and respond to
** challenging behaviors
** using approved behavior intervention plans.
* Provide
** emotional and behavioral support**, fostering resilience and coping strategies.
* Model and encourage
** positive social interactions
** and constructive routines.
** 4. Health and Safety Monitoring
*** Observe and report any changes in an individual’s
** physical or emotional well-being**.
* Assist with
** mobility and transfers**, including use of wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment.
* Maintain a
** safe, organized, and clean environment**.
* Support consistency by helping implement a
** structured daily routine**.
** 5. Documentation and Reporting
*** Maintain
** accurate, timely documentation
** of daily activities, progress, and incidents.
* Submit
** daily service notes
** for each shift, including verified
** GPS locations**.
* Record behavioral observations, milestones, and health updates.
* Communicate effectively with
** families, supervisors, and care team members**.
** 6. Community Engagement and Social Integration
*** Support participation in
** community events, employment, and recreational activities**.
* Facilitate
** relationship-building
** with peers and community members.
* Help individuals develop confidence in
** social settings
** through guided interaction.
** 7. Health Monitoring
*** Track and document
** medical conditions**, such as seizures or diabetes.
* Assist with
** medical appointments and treatments**.
* Encourage and model
** healthy lifestyle practices**, including nutrition and exercise.
** 8. Team Collaboration and Support
*** Collaborate with
** nurses, behavior specialists, and supervisors
** to deliver coordinated care.
* Participate in
** team meetings
** to review progress and adjust care plans as needed.
** Qualifications
* *** Education
* ** High school diploma or equivalent required.
*
* Experience:

*** Prior experience in
** caregiving or direct support
** for individuals with IDD strongly preferred.
** Clearance Requirements:**
* ** BCI check** (and FBI check if resident of Ohio for less than 5 years).
* ** Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
** check.
* Authorization to work in the
** United States**.
* ** First Aid and CPR certification**.
* Additional background checks as required.
** Competency Requirements
