Job Description

POSITION: Part Time Adult Education Instructor/ National External Diploma Program (NEDP) Administrator, Assessor, Portfolio Reviewer

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Coordinator of Responsive Education

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

EMPLOYMENT TERM:  school year, as needed

SALARY: $20 per hour

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Coordinator of Responsive Education and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and JCBOE Evaluation Policy

  • Performs duties efficiently and productively by:
    • Overseeing daily operations, compliance, and staff management of a local high school diploma program designed for adult learners;
    • Preparing adult learners to pass the General Educational Development exam;
    • Ensuring the site adheres strictly to policies established by Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) and relevant to state education departments;
    • Acting as an assessor and portfolio reviewer of adult learners;
    • Conducting blind, independent evaluation of a candidate’s completed work and verifying that all competencies are mastered to strict national standards;
    • Conducting one-on-one reviews to verify clients meet requirements for a high school diploma;
    • Identifying undemonstrated competencies or errors and returning any incomplete or incorrect tasks to the client for further work or revision;
    • Participating in regular consensus moderation meetings to help refine evaluation skills and maintain inter-rater reliability;
    • Facilitating in-office checks and post-task assessments within established time frames, and re-engaging clients who may be inactive;
    • Maintaining professional work habits while adhering to the Teacher Code of Conduct.
  • Builds and maintains positive public and employee relations by:
    • Working cooperatively with clients, teachers, and other stakeholders supporting adult learners and their families;
    • Sharing appropriate information using official channels while respecting confidentiality and privacy;
  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
    • Certification in CASAS NEDP implementation
    • Deep understanding of the current GED exam structure and testing requirements
    • Minimum of two years of experience in adult education, assessment, or related field
    • Strong communication and the ability to evaluate written and critical-thinking demonstrations objectively
    • Excellent interpersonal skills for working effectively with a variety of stakeholders including clients, families, and school personnel
    • Strong organizational and communication skills employing tact, patience, and courtesy
    • Demonstrated expertise related to technology devices and applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and file sharing programs

    Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate; meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.
