Speech Language Pathologist (Itinerant) - Jefferson County Schools Central Office
Location:
Charles Town, West Virginia.
Full‑time position (200 days).
Responsibilities- Implement the individual program, including administering speech, language, and hearing tests, developing plans addressing IEP objectives, and measuring student progress.
- Foster a climate conducive to learning: motivate students to participate, follow discipline plans, establish rapport, and ensure student comfort and safety.
- Demonstrate clinical competency in communication disorders: prepare thorough plans, use instructional materials, employ varied techniques, and participate in meetings such as SATE and Placement Advisory Committee.
- Maintain and upgrade professional skills: engage in staff development, read professional literature, pursue advanced degrees, research, and conferences.
- Promote and maintain positive relationships among parents, school personnel, and students: conduct informational conferences, collaborate with parents and administration, and provide status updates.
- Maintain professional work habits: submit accurate reports, be punctual, comply with policies, respect confidentiality, respond positively to feedback, and be available for outside education‑related purposes when required.
- Other responsibilities:
develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) as required.
- Valid West Virginia state certification for Speech Language Pathology.
- Criminal background check performed in accordance with WV Code.
- Meet qualifications outlined in WV Code § 18A‑3‑2a (as applicable).
- Ability to perform essential duties and comply with reasonable accommodations.
- Minimum three supervisory references (in accordance with West Virginia law).
Frequent reaching, standing, walking, lifting up to 10 lbs, writing, speaking, hearing, seeing, technology use, and repetitive motions. Adequate vision for reading handwritten or typed material is required.
Work EnvironmentIndoor classroom setting with occasional outdoor or laboratory activities. Noise level generally low to moderate (20–60 dB); gymnasium and technical labs higher. Position is educational and may involve interactions with students and the public.
Position TypeFull‑time, 200‑day school year.
