Position: Assistant Director of Programs (Campus Rec Coordinator)

Position Summary

Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for an Assistant Director of Programs within Campus Recreation. This position will be responsible for providing a broad range of informal and intramural programs for the campus community. This position is responsible for the administration and operation of Intramural Sports, Group Fitness, Personal Training, and Aquatics, supervising two graduate assistants and up to 60 student employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate all Intramural Sport programs
  • Fitness Program Leadership including Group Fitness and Personal Training
  • Aquatics Program Leadership
  • Administrative/Professional Assignments
  • Establish and maintain all program policies and procedures
  • Establish annual expenses for personnel, training, equipment, and maintenance.
  • Oversee risk management plan, supplies, and records
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Hours

The core work hours of this position are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.

-4:30 p.m. Position will required flexing to include evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (

    Note:

    Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
  • Demonstrated experience training and supervising multiple sport supervisors, referees, fitness instructors, or personal trainers
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating all facets of Intramural Sports or Group Fitness programs in a collegiate or public sector recreation program
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of experience in collegiate recreation programming
  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification
  • Fitness Instructor or Personal Training certification from AFAA, ACE, NASM, or comparable national organization.
    Master’s Degree in Sport Administration, Recreation, Higher Education, or related field and 2-3 years of experience in collegiate recreation programming

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, , leadership technique, , and coordination of people and resources
  • Skill in analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Skill in scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, the public, and outside constituency groups
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to utilize various computer software packages, such as Active Net, DSE, IM Leagues, Astra, etc..
  • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment to be able to analyze and investigate a variety of questions or problems
