Overview

Eastern Illinois University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Work in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology. The appointment begins January 1, 2027. The position requires a Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program at time of appointment and at least 3 years of post-MSÖ practice. A Ph.D. in Social Work, Doctor of Social Work (DSW), or related field is preferred;

ABD applicants will be considered. The department seeks candidates with a background in macro social work practice to contribute to the Sociology program and the interdisciplinary Bachelor of Social Work program.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate courses in social work, including introductory social work, family and society, and poverty and social welfare, with the ability to develop new courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  • Engage in research/publication and provide service to the discipline and university.
  • Contribute to program development within the Sociology program and the interdisciplinary BA in Social Work.
Qualifications
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program required at time of appointment.
  • At least 3 years of post-MS W practice experience.
  • Ph.D. in Social Work, Doctor of Social Work (DSW), or related field preferred; ABD applicants considered.
  • Background in macro social work practice and ability to teach topics such as family and society, social welfare, macro social work practice (including policy and research), international development, or immigration services.
Salary and Benefits
  • Salary range: $67,030 – $68,000.
