Job Purpose
Director of Operations initiates, coordinates and facilitates a wide variety of complex operations for the Dean and for the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences. Coordinates and supports business operations for more than 85 faculty, 4 departments, five physical locations, and 20+ administrative staff and laboratory technicians; serving approx. 1600 majors per year. Ensures effective and efficient communication within the School, to the campus, and to students and donors.
Bachelor’s degree with at least four years of high level administrative and/or communications experience with experience writing for diverse audiences. Experience in a higher education and Sciences setting is strongly preferred. Experience in implementation of conferences, workshops, and special events is helpful. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Professional demeanor, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise independent judgment. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel Power Point, Access, Outlook), web page authoring /web site maintenance, and social media tools. Familiarity with desktop publishing software. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational and project management skills. Must be able to review, analyze, and assess a variety of situations, policies, procedures, regulations, and laws and provide appropriate expert level advice to faculty, staff, and students.
Attention to detail, and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the general public in a complex working environment. Ability to lead/coordinate multiple school/campus-wide projects or teams is essential. Must be able to work ethically with highly confidential information. Must have, or be open to obtaining, familiarity with FERPA guidelines and CofC Banner.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
May be required to attend weekend or after hours functions for the School.

Directs complex administrative functions of the Dean’s office. Coordinates flow of communications and information within the Dean’s office. Prioritizes issues and information and disseminates to responsible parties. Alerts Dean as appropriate. Ensures accurate and secure documentation and records for the School and the Dean. Assists Dean in confidential and sensitive projects. Manages SNES and RITA buildings access control.
