Job Responsibilities
This employee will be responsible for coordinating the preparation and issuance of a wide variety of fisheries and natural resource related permits by SCDNR's Office of Fisheries Management (OFM). Job duties include:
- Preparing, issuing, and distributing permits for approximately thirty fisheries related activities.
- Identifying permit errors and correcting prior to issuance.
- Writing accurate monthly reports for permitting office activities.
- Maintaining an electronic filing system for marine permits.
- Assisting Law Enforcement with accurate information pertaining to permit tees and the marine permits which they have obtained.
- Assisting walk-in permit applicants and/or online applicants.
- Responding to telephone inquiries concerning marine fisheries or directing callers to appropriate information source.
- Maintaining shellfish culture and mariculture permit files and insuring that all permits are in order and complete.
- Providing mailing services to inform constituents, Law Enforcement and other pertinent staff of date changes to upcoming season and opening or closing of any seasons for marine fisheries in the near future (i.e. channel net, trawling and shellfish, etc.)
- Tracking permit compliance for permits requiring regular reporting.
- Providing backup services for boating/licensing office when necessary.
A bachelor's degree; or a high school diploma and four (4) years of responsible clerical or administrative experience.
Preferred QualificationsAbility to exercise judgment and discretion. Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively. Basic computer and math skills. Effective communication via mail, telephone, email and customer service with coworkers and constituents. Ability to manage large mailing via US Postal Service. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people; DNR employees, employees of other agencies, and members for the public.
Ability to handle and account for cash receipts. Knowledge of Go Outdoors SC, ArcGIS, DNR LE Dashboard and Perceptive Content. Knowledge of office procedures and responsible for closing duties when Administrative Coordinator is off site.
