Position: Highway Patrol - Troop 6 Headquarters Administrative Assistant (60021997)

Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs complex administrative and secretarial duties for Troop Six Patrol Headquarters. Assists Troop Six Headquarters' staff with the general operation of all administrative activities.

Independently performs a variety of secretarial and administrative duties involved in the operation of Troop Six Headquarters.

Maintains and updates personnel records, informs employees of any changes in insurance programs and benefits. Assists employees in completing proper forms for insurance and change of address. Secures and maintains files of a confidential nature. Reviews and prepares payroll by verifying all South Carolina Enterprise Information System (SCEIS) information is submitted by Troop Six Personnel.

Drafts written material and correspondence for the Troop Commander and staff, ensuring that format, grammar, spelling and punctuation are correct.

Reviews and separates summons tickets from transmittal forms and maintains an accurate file for the enforcement records. Screens and refers telephone calls to appropriate personnel. Provides information and assistance to the general public by telephone and in person. Assists with general office and administrative tasks, when necessary, particularly in the absence of other staff including special assignments (bike rallies, race, hurricanes, etc.).

Performs other required duties.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements - A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience. Agency Minimum Requirements - A bachelor's degree or an associate's degree with two (2) years of experience or a high school diploma and four (4) years of experience. Knowledge of office management policies, practices and procedures.

Must have extensive knowledge of grammatical rules, language usage and clerical formats. Ability to comprehend and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to handle confidential information and special assignments.
